How much should I weigh for my height?
Estimate an adult healthy-weight range from height and BMI, while recognizing why there is no single ideal number.
There is no single correct weight for a given height. A more useful reference is the range corresponding to an adult BMI of 18.5–24.9.
Reverse the BMI formula to estimate it:
Lower weight = 18.5 x height (m)^2
Upper weight = 24.9 x height (m)^2
At 1.70 m, the calculation gives approximately:
18.5 x 1.70^2 = 53.5 kg
24.9 x 1.70^2 = 72.0 kg
This broad range is intentional. People of the same height can differ in frame, muscle mass, age, sex, body-fat distribution and medical context. BMI does not identify the best point within the range, and being inside it does not guarantee good health.
Use the BMI calculator to calculate the range for your exact height. Consider waist measurement, strength, fitness, laboratory markers and weight history alongside it.
Adult BMI ranges should not be used as targets for children or teenagers. During pregnancy, clinicians use pre-pregnancy BMI and pregnancy-specific weight-gain guidance.
