How much waste should you add for tile?
A common allowance is 10% for straight installation. It can rise to 15% or more for diagonal or herringbone patterns and areas with many cuts.
What waste allowance should you use for diagonal or herringbone patterns?
As a starting point, use 15% for diagonal and 18% for herringbone. Adjust for many corners, narrow hallways or large tiles.
How do you calculate tiles per square meter?
Convert tile length and width to meters, multiply them for one tile area, then divide 1 m² by that area.
How do you calculate the boxes needed?

What does coverage per box mean?
It is the coverage stated on the packaging. It may be listed as pieces per box or as square metres covered per box.
Can you subtract doors, cabinets or untiled areas?
Yes. Add exclusions by dimensions or direct area to subtract them from the gross surface area.
Why should you buy tile from the same batch or shade?
Colour and calibre can vary between batches. Buying everything together reduces visible differences and leaves spare tiles for future replacements.
What if the room is irregular?
Divide the surface into rectangles, add each section and use exclusions for areas that will not be tiled.
