How many words per minute does a person read?
As a simple reference, this calculator uses 150 words per minute for slow reading, 220 for average reading, and 300 for fast reading. You can edit the speed if you know your pace.
Is the text saved or sent anywhere?
No. The count is calculated in your browser. The tool does not send the text to servers or save it in local storage.
Can I calculate reading time aloud?
This calculator is designed for silent reading. For reading aloud, use a lower speed.
How are words counted?
The calculator uses the browser’s word segmentation when available, with a Unicode pattern as a fallback for letters, numbers, and hyphenated or apostrophized words.
Why does the time change with slow or fast reading?
Time is calculated by dividing words by words per minute. A slower speed increases the time; a faster speed reduces it.
How can I know when I will finish reading?
The tool adds the estimated duration to your device’s current time and rounds up to the next minute to show a practical finish time.
