How accurate is this calculator?

This is an estimate based on body circumferences and a population-derived formula. Measurement technique, fat distribution, and small differences in tape placement can change the result. It is not equivalent to a clinical measurement.

How should I measure my neck, waist, and hips?

Use a flexible tape without compressing the skin. Measure the neck below the larynx; the male formula uses the abdomen at navel level, while the female formula uses the natural waist and the widest part of the hips.

Why does a one-centimeter difference change the result?

The formula uses differences between circumferences, so a small change in the waist, neck, or hips can affect the estimate. The calculator shows a conservative ±1 cm sensitivity range.

Do I need to know my weight?

No. Weight is not used to calculate the percentage. It is only used to estimate fat mass and fat-free mass.

Is fat-free mass the same as muscle mass?

No. Fat-free mass includes muscle, water, bones, organs, and other tissues. This calculator does not estimate muscle mass.

Is this suitable for athletes?

It may be less accurate for high-performance athletes, bodybuilders, and people with high muscle mass or body-fat distributions unlike the population used to develop the formula.

Can it be used during pregnancy?
