These measures summarize the list from different perspectives.
The arithmetic average: the sum of values divided by the number of values.
It is the center of the sorted list. If there are two middle values, they are averaged.
It is the most frequent value. A list may have no mode or several modes.
The difference between the maximum and minimum. It shows how far apart the extremes are.
If you need variance, standard deviation, quartiles or outliers, those measures belong to a more advanced analysis of dispersion. This calculator focuses on a basic summary and frequencies.
Add all values and divide by the number of data points. For example, if the sum is 83 and there are 5 values, the mean is 83 / 5 = 16.6.
Sort the data from lowest to highest. With an odd count, take the middle value. With an even count, average the two middle values.
Count how often each value appears. The mode is the most frequent value. If every value appears once, the list has no mode.
A list can be multimodal. The calculator shows every value tied for the highest frequency when that frequency is greater than 1.
If no value repeats, there is no mode. In a one-value list, that value is shown as the mode because it is the only and most frequent value.
The mean uses every value and can change substantially with outliers. The median looks at the center of the sorted list and is usually more resistant to extremes.
Subtract the minimum from the maximum. If the maximum is 20 and the minimum is 12, the range is 8.
Yes. You can use a decimal point or comma. When using comma decimals, separate values with semicolons, for example: 1,5; 2,5; 3,75.
