VAT rates by country: an orientation table
Compare selected general VAT or IGV rates and learn why the official current rate must be checked before invoicing.
This table is a calculation reference, not tax advice. Rates change, reduced rates coexist with general rates, and the applicable treatment depends on the product, customer, location and date.
| Country | Local name | General reference rate |
|---|---|---|
| Mexico | IVA | 16% |
| Colombia | IVA | 19% |
| Peru | IGV | 18% |
| Spain | IVA | 21% |
For a net price of 100, the corresponding gross totals would be 116, 119, 118 and 121 respectively—assuming the general rate applies.
Do not select a rate from the country name alone. Check reduced, zero-rated, exempt and excluded categories; special territories; cross-border rules; and the tax point date. Verify with SAT in Mexico, DIAN in Colombia, SUNAT in Peru or Agencia Tributaria in Spain.
Use the VAT calculator after identifying the correct current rate. The country guides for Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Spain provide calculation examples.
